Ladakh

Rumtshe - Tsomoriri lake trek 8N/9D.

This trek are one of the Challenging Trek in ladakh and this trek are mainly focus for the life of Nomadic People, and focus for their Himalayan life. And also focus for the Wildlife and the high altitude Lakes, high altitude flora and fauna.

The initial trek  point from Rumtse (4100m)  village which is Eastern part of Ladakh and ends at Tsomoriri Lake, a beautiful High altitude lake in Changthang, which is also the propagation ground to birds like the Bar-necked geese and the Brahminy duck. The unproductive region is home to plentiful species of wildlife including the wild Ass Kiang, Himalayan Marmot, Tibetan Antelope, and Himalayan Ibex. The route suffers number of high passes and through the scenery is spectacular the entire route is through vast wasteland and high altitude which requires good acclimatization.

Itinerary

Day 1 : (Drive to Rumtse (4095m) 76 Kms / 2 hrs)

After breakfast drive to Rumtse at a distance of 70 Kms from Leh on Leh Manali highway. En route visit Thiksey and Hemis monasteries. Overnight stay in a tented camp at Rumtse.

Day 2 : (Rumtse to Kyamar (4383m) 4-5 hrs.)

Walk along the road till you reach a Govt. tourist bungalow. From there take the right side trail into the valley passing through some abandoned army huts. The trail leads you to a river flowing in from the right side, crossing it and then walking towards left takes you to a stream flowing from right side, which also has to be crossed. After several widening and narrowing of the valley there comes a point where it turns to the north leading to the campsite close to a local nomadic settlement in their traditional tents.

Day 3 : (Kyamar to Tisaling (4800m) via Kyumur La (4870m) and Mandalchan La (4996m) 5-6 hrs.)

After few minutesí walk from the Campsite an easy but long ascent of Kyumur La begins. Colourful wild flowers on the way are visually pleasant in the exhausting climb to the top, where the trail divides into two; one going to the left leading towards Tsokar lake and one on the right takes you to a stream, crossing which another pass to climb is there. It is little hard to trace the path for some distance from where the clear trail leads to the top of Mandalchan la (4996m). The trail goes further up and then steep down to a beautiful valley called Tisaling, which is the campsite for the day. Overnight in a tented Camp.

Day 4 : (Tisaling to Pangunagu (Tsokar) (4398m) via Shingbuk La (5016m) 5-6 hrs. )

A gradual and easy ascend will lead you to Shibuk La. From the top you can have the view of first glimpse of Tsokar. It is a long descend from the top to Pangunagu. There are many wild Asses (skyang) around this area. Pangunagu has also nice camping site. Overnight camp.

Day 5 : (Pangunagu to Nuruchan (4500m) 4-5 hrs.)

Today trek is an easy walk along the Tsokar Lake for about 2 hours and then there is a long plain sandy trail. After some distance you catch the sight of the agricultural fields, where the campsite is located next to a stream. Overnight in a tented camp.

Day 6 : (Nuruchan to Rachungkaru (4668m) via Horlam Kongka La (4712m) 3-4 hrs.)

Today will be a short day trek. Cross the river early in the morning and the trek will follow gradual ascend to Horlam kongka-la (4712m) and then again slow descend till the stream. Cross the stream and follow the trail on the right side of the stream to reach Rjungkaru. Overnight camp.

Day 7 : (Rachungkaru to Gyamalhoma (4895m) 6-7 hrs.)

Start climbing Kyamayur La (5125m) which takes around 2 hrs. The last climb is a tiring one. After the pass the trail leads towards north-east and at the end of the valley trail starts ascending another small pass called Gyama La (5100m), from where you can have views of different mountain peaks. Walk down towards north-east and cross the small river and the Gyama lhoma is reached after another river, crossing which is also a base for Korzok pass. Overnight in a tented Camp.

Day 8 : (Gyama lhoma to Korzok (Tsomoriri Lake))

Start an easy ascent to the Korzok pass along the stream. It takes around 2 hrs to reach the top from where you can have the wonderful view of the Lake, following which is the steep walk down to the Korzok village. You can also camp at Korzok Phu where nomad camps are located, around one hour before the lake if you have extra days. Overnight in a tented Camp.

Day 9 : (Tsomoriri to Leh (240 kms / 6 hrs))

After breakfast walk around the Lake and drive to Leh via Mahey Bridge and Chumathang, a famous hot spring known for its medicinal properties. THE END

Inclusion -

  • Yaks/Porters: For carrying camping equipment, rations, vegetables and some amount of personal gear of the clients (one bag not weighing more than 5kgs)

Q.What type of wearing material need for trek?

  • Down Feather Jacket. T-shirt 3 or 4 pieces an Wind proof Trouser. Inner Trouser and other 2 fancy trouser, Woollen socks
  • Water proof Gloves or woollen gloves Water Bottle woollen Cap, Trekking Boots sleepers Head Lamps. Extra cells,sun guggles etc.
  • Personal medicinal kids. Agencies provide only basic medicine.

Q.what the thing to keep in mind during the star of trek?

  • Trekking route are maximum narrow  and we need to maintain our walking manner, every trekker it knows there at we should what we need take aware, when we can cross with the dunky horses we always give the side of inside the path,
  • Do not fall or throw any stone on the way.because it can be distrub for animal and sometime people are there for bring grass and wood for shelter at home.
  • Do not make noise on campsite mostlyat evening time or night because it can be disturb for other trekkers,
  • Always we respect for mountain and natural vegetation.
  • It should be needed local Weather  information.
  • Do not make noise on the way,try to walk as much as possible in silence, because it is more chance to found of wild animals and birds.
