The Dafey Bhir Trek or Dafeybhir Trek is a fantastic trek on the Singalila Ridge in Sikkim. The Dafey Bhir Pass Trek, located on the border between India and Nepal, is renowned for its breathtaking panoramas of Mount Everest and the Kanchendzonga range. When translated literally from the local language, "Dafey Bhir/Dafeybhir" means "Pass of the Pheasant." With its lofty altitude of 4,530 meters, this pass provides stunning panoramas of the Himalayas from Nepal to Bhutan.

Trekkers may begin the Dafey Bhir trek or Dafeybhir trek from picturesque villages like Sangkhola and Uttarey. Depending on which direction you go, the road may be referred to as either Uttarey to Sangkhola via Dafey Bhir or Sangkhola to Yuksom via Dafey Bhir.

If you want a hike with a little bit of everything, try the route from Sangkhola to Yuksom. The famous Dafey Bhir Trek, as well as the lesser-known Dzongri and Goechala Treks, are all part of this itinerary. This trail—called the Circuit Tour, the Goechala Round Trek, and the Sikkim Singalila Trek—may be more challenging, but it's also more rewarding.

The Dafey Bhir pass, with its stunning 360-degree views of the surrounding mountains, is a key point of these excursions. From the Lampokhari camp, hikers may go to either Sang-khola or Yuksom.

Itinerary

Day 1 (Arrival at NJP/Bagdogra Airport - Journey to Yuksom)

Begin your adventure with a scenic drive from NJP/Bagdogra Airport, taking around 6-7 hours to the tranquil town of Yuksom. Overnight in Yuksom.

Day 2 (Yuksom to Sang Khola - Trek to Chongri Village)

Post breakfast, drive for approximately 2.5 hours to the charming Sang Khola, perched at 1,810m. From here, a two-hour ascent leads to Chongri Village. Dive into the rich culture of the Sherpa, Bhutia, Limboo, and Rai communities residing here.

Day 3 (Chongri to Nayapatal)

Set out on a 6km trail to Naya Patal (2,536m). The trail, a mix of rock and mud, demands around 5 hours due to its challenging terrain. Remember, options for halts are limited, so ensure timely arrival.

Day 4 (Naya Patal to Yambong via Saile Chok and Dungdang SSB Army Camp)

Embark on a 10km trek from Naya Patal to the picturesque Yambong campsite. This 5-6 hour journey, via Saile Chok and Dungdang SSB Army Camp, offers stunning views of the Singalila Range. Relish an overnight tent stay amidst this natural splendor.

Day 5 (Yambong to Jumley Pokhari via Dafney Bhir Pass)

Trek 10km towards Jumley Pokhari, navigating through the mesmerizing Dafney Bhir Pass (4,540m). This journey unravels breathtaking vistas of the Himalayas. If time permits, explore nearby lakes. Overnight in tents at Jumley Pokhari.

Day 6 (: Rest Day at Jumley Pokhari)

Relax and rejuvenate amidst nature.

Day 7 (Jumley to Pangding)

Traverse a 14km path featuring minimal flora, scale the Daphey Bhir La Pass, and descend sharply to discover the serene meadow of Gomathang. Overnight camping at Gomathang.

Day 8 (Pangding to Dzongri)

Trek 13km towards Dzongri, starting with a descent to Tigap Chu (3,700m), followed by a climb through lush pine and rhododendron forests. Enjoy camping in the captivating Dzongri area.

Day 9 (Thangsing - Goechala - Return to Thangsing)

Witness the magical sunrise over the peaks by starting early towards View Point 1. After a descent to Samiti Lake, retreat to Lamuney for a mid-day meal before heading back to Thangsing. Overnight tent stay.

Day 10 (Thangsing/Kokchurang to Tsokha)

Trek through dense woods, reaching Phedang for lunch. Post-meal, begin your two-hour descent to Tsokha. Overnight camping at Tsokha.

Day 11 (Tsokha to Yuksom)

Venture downwards to the iconic suspension bridge over Prek Chu, then make your way to Yuksom. Rest and rejuvenate at a local hotel.

Day 12 (Departure from Yuksom to NJP/Bagdogra Airport)

Conclude your thrilling trekking expedition as you head back to Siliguri's NJP or Bagdogra Airport.
