The Bajre Dara Trek Around West Sikkim Near Pelling lies near Khechoperi Lake and is a mesmerising trek deep into the heart of the Himalayas. Trek through a stunning landscape at 3,360 metres (11,020 feet) in three days over a distance of 33 kilometres. It is an easy-grade trek, moderate in difficulty for both new and experienced trekkers.
The journey starts from the small village of 4th mile, located 17 km away from Yuksom/Pelling. Trekkers then make their way to Bhanjyang along the Lamathang village trails and set up camp amidst pristine mountainous beauty. The big day of the trek itself is the next, when you ascend to Bajre Dara – 11,000 feet above sea level. This ridge is again an excellent viewpoint with 360-degree views, and you would see great vistas of Kabru, Japonu, the Pandim range and also the awesome Kanchenjunga. It was the first time they had seen any of the surrounding mountains, and it is a breathtaking experience for all trekkers.
The Bajre Dara pass trek is also full of mystery and local legends. Etymology The name "Bajre Dara" is a Nepali word, where "Bajre" stands for thunder that frequently strikes at the place and "Dara" means Loop. Legend has it that a bolt of lightning struck the area, scorching the trees and killing plants and vegetation. These stories lend a bit of mystique to what is already one of the most picturesque hikes.
This trek is best between September and June; ideal months are October to November, December, and March. The trek fees are approximately Rs. 12,000/head
