Phoktey Dara trek is the famous trek of West Sikkim, situated at the height of 3734 meters. The trek is approximately 26 km. This trek is famous because it gives a view of the 4 highest peaks of the world out of 5 and these hilltops are Mt. Makalu, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhoste. On the eastern side, one can witness the view of Mt. Sinolchu, Mt. Kabru, Mt. Khanchendzonga, Mt. podium, Mt. Rathong, Mt. Kokthang. While doing this trek one can get a 360 view of many mountains and the ‘Sleeping Buddha’ formation of the Kanchenjungha range. From the top of Phoktey Dara, one will get the top view of Phalut, Sandhakpu, blossoming alpine trees, Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary, and Nunthaley viewpoint. It is the gateway to Singalila Ridge Hike and is famous for different species of birds and Rhododendrons.

Phoktey Dara is the trek inside Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary and while trekking through this you will get to see many untouched forests. There are many forests Mixed coniferous forest, Montane wet Temperate Forest, Subalpine, Conifer, and Birch - Fir Forest. Mostly the atmosphere of the forest is damp and wet, rich in flora. Even during winters, one will get to see greenery. The sanctuary is spreading over the area of 104 sq. km. approximately giving a home to Barking Deer, Marbled Cat, Himalayan Black Bear, Red Panda, etc. This is the best place for people who have a great interest in photography.

Phoktey Dara trek’s starting point is Uttarey, which is a small village in West Sikkim, situated at northern Singalila Ranges. It’s another name is Everest Kanchendzonga- View trek.

One can choose the railway or airways to reach here. NJP or New Jalpaiguri Railways Station is the main railway station where one can come from their place. And if someone is coming by airways then he/ she should fly to IXB/ Bagdogra.

Itinerary

Day 1 (Arrival in Baghdogra Airport or NJP siliguri and drive 6 hours to Uttarey.)

As you arrive at the Railway station NJP or airport IXB our representative will welcome you and take a drive of approx. 7 hours, 160 km and reach Uttarey Valley (starting point of Phokteydara Trek). While driving towards Uttarey enjoy watching the beauty of Teesta River, lush green hills and mountains, cloudy hills, evergreen woodland/ forests, rural villages of Sikkim. During 6-7 hrs. On the journey towards Uttarey, you can stop and have lunch at the 2nd important and famous place of Sikkim, Jordan. It is the last market also if you are looking for adding up something in your trek list then you should buy it from here only after this no other market you will find. During the ride, you will also pass by some well-known tourist attractions like Kaluk, Dentam, Hee, Singshore bridge, Rinchenpong. Take a tea break and enjoy the place. As you arrive at Uttarey check-in, take some rest, and get fresh. In the evening you can go for a walk and explore the local. Overnight stay at Uttarey.
