The best time to do the Phoktey Dara Trek is during spring and autumn. The best weather and mountain views are during these two seasons.

This hike is best done in the spring (March–May). These are the months of pleasant weather, and also the months in which the forests are alive with rhododendron flowers. You will also enjoy wonderful views of Kanchenjunga and the surrounding peaks, though cloudy weather is sometimes possible.

Many trekkers feel the best time to hike the Pacific Crest Trail is autumn (September through November). The weather typically clears after the monsoon, and the mountain view is clear and incredible. It's cool and comfortable to walk in, and perfect if clear views of the peaks are the primary objective.

It can also be used in December, although it gets very cold and there is a risk of snow falling—this may not be everyone's cup of tea. Likewise, the month of June is not recommended, since the monsoon begins to take place and roads become slippery.
