Namaste, fellow adventurers! This is Kiran Gurung, founder of Glacier Treks & Adventure, coming to you directly from our base in Yuksom, the gateway to the Kanchenjunga National Park.
I’ve been guiding the majestic trails of West Sikkim for over 15 years. In that time, the question I get asked most often—more than “How hard is it?” or “What’s the weather like?”—is simply: What will this cost me?
If you are reading this, you are likely researching the famous Dzongri Trek. You want more than just a number. You need a 2026 cost breakdown that is honest, detailed, and transparent. You want to know exactly where your money goes.
Our 2026 Dzongri Trek Cost package price is ₹14,900 per person for Indian trekkers (discounted from a list price of ₹15,999) and $250 per person for international trekkers. This is the pillar of our pricing. But before you start planning your budget, let me walk you through every single detail.
The 2026 Quick Cost Snapshot
| Itinerary | Duration | Total Trek Distance | Highest Point | Difficulty | Package Cost (Indian) | Package Cost (Foreign) |
| Dzongri Trek | 7 Days / 6 Nights | 58 Kilometers | 4,200 Meters (13,780 ft) | Moderate | ₹14,900 | $250 |
A Detailed Look at What is Included and What is Extra
Our philosophy at Glacier Treks & Adventure is simple: no hidden charges. The Dzongri Trek Cost you see is the base, but to help you plan your final outlay, I have broken it down into a table of what is included versus the realistic extras.
| Cost Head | Indian Trekkers (INR) | Foreign Trekkers (USD) |
| Standard Package (Yuksom to Yuksom) | ₹14,900 | $250 |
| List Price (Before Seasonal Discount) | ₹15,999 | $280 |
| NJP/Bagdogra to Yuksom Transfer (Shared, per head) | ₹3,200 (approx) | $50 |
| Bag Offloading (Mule/Yak, full trek) | ₹4,500 | (On Request) |
| Gear Rental (Jacket, Sleeping Bag, Poles) | ₹2,500 (full set) | $40 |
| GST (Mandatory) | 5% | 5% |
| Travel & Medical Insurance (Mandatory) | ~₹800 | (Trekker’s own) |
| Tips for Support Team (Suggested) | ₹400 – ₹800 | $10 – $12 |
Kiran’s Pro Tip on Extras: Your package includes all meals from Day 1 dinner to Day 7 breakfast. However, to get a true all-in budget, I advise my trekkers to plan for roughly ₹22,000–₹25,000 (for Indian trekkers) and around $360–$420 (for foreign trekkers).
A Personal Comparison: Dzongri vs. Goechala Trek Cost
Since I run both these treks, I want to be very honest with you. The Dzongri Trek Difficulty Level lesser than Goechala trek which is four days longer. So, how do I tell my trekkers to decide? It comes down to time and tolerance for altitude.
| Factor | Dzongri Trek | Goechala Trek |
| Duration | 6 Nights / 7 Days | 9 Nights / 10 Days |
| Total Distance | 58 km | 80 km |
| Highest Altitude | 4,200 m (Dzongri Top) | 4,500 m (Goechala Viewpoint 1) |
| Difficulty | Moderate | Moderate to Difficult |
| Package Cost (Indian) | ₹14,900 | ₹19,500 |
| Best For | 7-day leave, strong beginners | Lifetime trip, more acclimatization days |
I tell everyone the same thing: if you have 10 days and good fitness, do the Goechala Trek. You get to walk under the mountain. But if you want the same world-class sunrise on Mt. Kanchenjunga in a shorter window, the Dzongri Top Sunrise is one of the best mountain sunrises in the Indian Himalaya. The Best Time for Dzongri Trek is September to November.
Hidden Costs: Permits, Police Registration, and Travel
A huge part of the Dzongri Trek Cost is not just the guide or food, but the bureaucratic reality of trekking in a Protected Area like Sikkim. We handle Dzongri trek permit fee, transportation fee, registration fee for you, but you should know what it entails.
Kanchenjunga National Park: This is paid at the forest check post in Yuksom on the morning of Day 2. For Indian trekkers, this is typically included in our package. It costs approximately ₹700 per person; for foreign trekkers, the permit fee is significantly higher.
Trekking Route Permit & Police Registration: Dzongri Issued by Sikkim Tourism. It requires a passport-size photo and a valid government photo ID. Registration at the Yuksom Police Station is mandatory before we set foot on the trail.
Transportation from NJP/Bagdogra: Remember, our package starts in Yuksom. You need to get here first. The standard shared jeep from New Jalpaiguri (NJP) to Yuksom takes 7–8 hours and costs roughly ₹600–800 per seat.

Why Do Trekkers Choose My Agency?
There are cheaper agencies, and there are more expensive ones. But after 15 years on the trail, I have built Glacier Treks & Adventure on the principle of trust. The costing I have shared is not a “tourist price” and a “local price.” It is the real price.
When you trek with us, your package includes an IMF-certified trek leader (for safety), a local Sikkimese guide (for cultural context), a cook, helpers, and mules to carry our kitchen and camping equipment. We also carry a basic medical kit with portable oxygen. These are non-negotiable for a safe trek.
Best Time for the Dzongri Trek
The Best Time for the Dzongri Trek dictates the value you get for your money. You can trek from March to May (Spring) and September to December (Autumn). I personally recommend mid-October to mid-November for the most stable weather and clearest mountain views. Avoid the monsoon months (June–August) as the trail gets leech-infested.

FAQs on Dzongri Trek Cost
Is the Dzongri trek costly?
With an average cost of ₹14,900 for a 7-day Himalayan trek that includes all meals, camping, permits, and expert guides, I would call it affordable for the value you receive. It is less expensive than the Goechala Trek, which is priced at ₹19,500.
Is alcohol included in the Dzongri Trek cost?
No. We are in the pristine Himalayas. Alcohol is not provided on the trek to prevent altitude sickness and ensure trekker safety.
Do I need travel insurance for the Dzongri Trek?
Yes, medical evacuation is extremely rare but expensive. We strongly advise every trekker to purchase travel insurance covering high-altitude trekking.
Can I do the Dzongri Trek alone?
Solo unguided trekking is not permitted inside Kanchenjunga National Park. You must be accompanied by a registered local guide, which is always included in our package.
Is the Dzongri Trek difficult?
It is graded as Moderate. It requires a reasonable level of fitness and prior trekking experience is recommended due to long trekking days and altitude gain.
